Arthur Chaplin, French painter born in Jouy-en-Josas in 1869, died in 1935, son of the painter Charles Chaplin. Abandoning the vaporous negligee often represented by his father, Arthur Chaplin draws his inspiration from the beauties, more chaste, of botany. A pupil of Léon Bonnat and then of Bernier, his interest in Dutch still life was confirmed during a trip to the Netherlands. He is a very talented pasticheur of 17th century Dutch nature-mortists like Rachel Ruysch, or later, the van Spaendonck, van Os, van Pol. External dimension 110 cm x 91 cm. Canvas dimension 92 cm x 73 cm.
