A large and elegant sculptural group in polychrome Capodimonte porcelain depicting the famous mythological scene of Mercury and Argo, executed with remarkable sculptural quality and a wealth of detail.
The composition is striking for the strong dynamism of the figures, the refinement of the drapery, and the delicate polychromy in shades of blue, bronze, and ivory. The young Mercury is depicted in the act of striking the sleeping Argos, in a scene of intense theatricality inspired by classical tradition.
Beautiful craftsmanship in the faces, hands, and anatomical modeling. Mark on the base attributable to the Capodimonte manufactory.
Good overall condition with normal signs of age. It shows some wear and small defects/restorations visible in the photographs, including minor chips on the fingers and slight abrasions on the base.
An object of great decorative impact, ideal for collectors of Neapolitan artistic porcelain, mythological subjects, and 20th-century decorative arts.
