Cantonese porcelain plate, China, for the European market, first half of the 19th century, with a central decoration in famille rose enamels of a court scene against a lakeside backdrop, with seven richly dressed women conversing and reading; the scene is bordered by a gold rim.
The rim is decorated with flowers, fruits, and foliage, interspersed with shimmering insects and butterflies, as well as birds in reserves. The border is also highlighted by a gold rim.
The plate is 22.5 cm in diameter. It is in very good condition, with no chips around its edge. Note: there are tiny chips on the base of the plate, as well as two firing defects on the back; see the last three photos.
