    Sonia Delaunay (1885-1979)
A naturalized French painter of Ukrainian origin, in 1909 she married the painter Robert Delaunay. In 1911, she founded Orphism with him, a pictorial movement characterized by the use of bright colors and geometric shapes, heralding the abstraction of which they were among the pioneers. A complete artist, his work encompasses painting, textile manufacture, decoration and ceramics.
A retrospective of her work was held in 1975: 70 years of paintings as well as fabrics, scarves, porcelain and carpets - creations from the '25s - published by the Artcurial gallery.
