Pair of presentation plates, cake dishes in porcelain, beautifully gilded with interlacing, floral motifs and fleurs-de-lis on a rare tangerine background.

Both plates bear the Spode Feldspat Porcelain signature in pink, with decoration number 3932.

The Spode factory is based in Stoke on Trent, England. Josiah Spode I (1733-1797) bought the factory in 1770 from the workshop of John Turner (who copied the great French manufactures such as Sèvres with success and talent). Production of the translucent organic porcelain known as "bone china" did not begin until 1795. Around the same period, Josiah Spode the elder became involved with William Copeland, with whom he produced a porcelain quite similar to Chinese porcelain. Feldspat Porcelain" was not produced by Josiah Spode II (1755-1827) until after his father's death, around 1821. Our plates date from this period: the early 19th century, the time of the Restoration in France.

They are in excellent condition. No damage. Fresh color and gilding.
