Albert Ernest CARRIER-BELLEUSE (1824-1884) ceramic ewer.
The ewer is decorated on one side with a male nude leaning on a shepherd's crook, accompanied by a dog; on the other side, a female nude caressing a greyhound, an allegory of Diana the Huntress.
The body is finished with a mascaron.
The handle is carved in imitation of bamboo.
Green cartouches on a blue and black background.
Albert Carrier-Belleuse was a major sculptor of the Second Empire and a disseminator of the Neo-Renaissance style. At the invitation of Léon Arnoux, director of the Minton Manufactory, he created several models there between 1851 and 1855. His recruitment reflected the British government's political will to promote domestic industry by inviting the leading artists of the time. He then took over the management of the Sèvres porcelain factory, where he collaborated with Auguste Rodin (1824-1887) to create several ceramic sculptures.

This ewer comes from the Minton factory.
