Very fine and rare sake bottle from the Edo period (1603-1868), 1st half of the 19th century.
Representing Hotei, one of the seven deities of good fortune in Japanese mythology. Hotei is the deity of abundance, good health, contentment and commerce. His name means "cloth bag", so he is often depicted with a purse as an attribute. As here, he is seen pulling his bag, which has been transformed into a reservoir.

Good condition, with a small chip on the lid. The lid is present, which is not always the case.
