Pair of decorative porcelain vases from Paris, France, Empire/Restoration period – early 19th century, circa 1820.

The charming and humorous decoration tells a story in two parts: a child taking down a bird's nest to count the eggs, within matte and burnished gilt frames and decoration on a purple background adorned with griffins. We have previously seen similar decorations signed by Halley, which allows us to attribute them to the Halley Manufactory. The side handles are in the shape of swans' necks, and the gilding is superb in both matte and burnished gold.

These are beautiful, large vases; the depth of color makes them highly decorative. Ideal for adorning a mantelpiece or chest of drawers, complementing a pair of candlesticks in an Empire style setting.

Excellent condition, extremely fresh gilding with no wear, no damage or repaired breaks (except for a small piece of a swan's beak missing).
