This unusual size is worth taking the time to admire these two large Japanese ceramic satsuma vases. There is a rich scene mixing several dignitaries and Japanese samurai warriors, as well as the emperor. Everything is richly enhanced with a colorful palette mixed with gold. Each vase is signed and presents at the birth of the neck a head, open mouth, of a lion of Fo.
Traditionally made in the Kagoshima region (Kyūshū), satsuma ceramics are undoubtedly one of the most famous in Japan without being the oldest. This technique only appeared in the archipelago at the very end of the 16th century and only really took off in the 19th century when the enthusiasm of Europeans for this ceramic made itself felt. Predominantly golden, red and blue, our Satsuma are elegant decorative pieces. The ensemble is in perfect condition.
