Pair of Impressionist slipware vases from Montigny-sur-Loing, decorated with poppies, late 19th century.

They are signed on the base by the painter Artigue.

The town was home to numerous earthenware factories that commissioned painters to create designs for their ceramics, producing a range of models inspired by Impressionism. These innovative potters developed the slipware painting technique, using clay colored with metallic oxides.
