Jacques (1926–2008) & Danièle (1933–2010) Ruelland. A French ceramicist couple, emblematic of 1950s ceramics.
Born in 1926, Jacques Ruelland studied painting at the École des Beaux-Arts in Versailles. There he met sculpture student Danièle Dupin, six years his junior and
his future wife in 1951. Their shared love of the arts brought them together. In 1950, during a stay in the Var region, Jacques and Dani discovered the works of Picasso, Madoura, Capron, Picault, and many others.
It was in 1952 that the couple decided to embark on an artistic adventure with clay, a medium that allows for freedom of expression. Together, they complemented each other’s artistic skills: Danièle created the form and Jacques decorated it.
