Jean MARAIS (1913–1998) explores one of his favorite forms here by combining sculpture and functional design. This Bull, crafted from black glazed ceramic, captivates with the simplicity of its forms, the expressive stylization of the head, and the elegance of its circular handle integrated into the silhouette. The satin-finish black glaze highlights the animal’s curves and reinforces its character, which is both archaic and modern. Signed, this work is a fine example of the poetic bestiary developed by Jean Marais in his ceramic production in Vallauris.
