Jean-Claude Séguin is a French ceramicist associated with the stoneware tradition of Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye, in Burgundy, one of France’s historic centers of ceramics. Trained in this environment, where the craft of stoneware has been passed down for generations, he has developed a body of work that combines technical mastery, understated forms, and a sensitivity to materials and glazes. In 1983, they set up a new studio in the former La Canerie mill in St. Vérain. There, they create unique pieces and sculptures inspired by traditional works from Puisaye and Berry (16th–19th centuries), drawing inspiration from the “Talbots.”
Together with Sabine Séguin, he has contributed to passing on ceramic expertise by mentoring and training many young potters, particularly within the artistic community of Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye. His work continues the pottery tradition of Puisaye, emphasizing ceramics that are both utilitarian and artistic, deeply rooted in the qualities of the local stoneware.
