Vintage 1970s Stoneware Pitcher Signed by Jean Marais

Made in the 1970s, this stoneware pitcher with a black chamotte glaze is a creation of the artist Jean Marais (1913-1998). Initially known as a legendary French film actor for movies like "Beauty and the Beast" and "Donkey Skin," he decided to pursue a career in ceramics, influenced by Jean Cocteau and his time in Vallauris.

Although passionate and self-taught, it was the Vallauris ceramicist couple Jo and Nini Pasquali who taught him the fundamentals, such as throwing, firing, and glazing techniques.

Jean Marais's creations stand out for their striking surrealism and unique style, reflecting the actor-turned-ceramicist's contribution to the revival of modern folk art in Vallauris!

Fast and careful shipping to France, Europe, and worldwide.
