Contemporary Raku stoneware bottle vase signed Kamel Boubekeur 2018

When traditional Japanese stoneware craftsmanship meets modern contemporary taste...

Born in 2018, this ashy-looking vase is a creation by Algerian ceramic artist Kamel Boubekeur using the ancestral technique of rapid firing of Japanese chamotte stoneware: "Raku" dating from the 16th century, revisited to suit today's tastes.

The Raku process involves the rapid firing of chamotte stoneware using fire and ash. Incandescent pieces can be smoked, soaked in water, burnt or left in the open air. Once fired, the kiln temperature crescendos until a significant thermal shock is achieved, giving this astonishing result.

Unlike stoneware glazes, which require at least 1,260°C, the glazes applied using the raku technique are fired at low temperatures, from 700°C, giving this vase a much "rougher" ash-gray appearance with discreet crackling.

As raku pieces of this size and shape are very rare, this raku bottle vase is exceptional in its size and shape, blending geometry and traditional craftsmanship with a taste for contemporary art.

Lovers of raku stoneware and crafts from Algeria, don't wait any longer! Adopt this raku stoneware vase by Kamel Boubekeur today!
