Bibliography:
Prosper Lecourtier was a student of Emmanuel Frémiet (1824-1910) and he exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1875 until his death in 1925. Frémiet seems to have bequeathed his passion for the animal world to his student. The latter excelled in the production of animals in a naturalistic style2. Lecourtier, for his part, expressed his talent through sculptures of more modest dimensions. We find in his sculptures of hunting scenes the influence of his master, however Lecourtier detaches himself from his model by the integration of movement as shown in his sculptures of hunting dogs or deer and does. He has a real sense of naturalism in the anatomical modeling and expressions of the animals represented. He won several medals at the Salon and during universal exhibitions.
