Cambodia / Kingdom of Angkor Wat
Baphuon style / 11th century

Rare representation of the deity Ganesh, shown seated in the sattvaparyanka position, his right leg resting on his left. He is dressed in a delicately modeled sampot with finely pleated edges, tied at the back in a fishtail-shaped knot that undulates slightly to the right. The arms are detached from the body, the hands resting on the knees. He is richly adorned with bracelets on his arms, wrists and ankles, a large triple-row necklace and a Brahmin cord crossing the body above a slightly rounded belly. He has long ears resting on his shoulders, a short trunk resting in the middle of his chest. He is adorned with a tiara and a high conical mukata.
