Large bronze group with brown patina after Claude Michel, called Clodion (French, 1738-1814). The statuette features two young bacchantes and three putti. The bacchantes are crowned with vine leaves and wear flowing dresses in antique style. One of them is playing the flute while the other is carrying on hes shoulders a Cupid playing the tambourine. At their feet, two other putti are playing with the thyrse, one of the most common and ancient attribute of Bacchus. The joyful group rests on a red marble plinth. The bronze is signed "CLODION".
In overall good condition, with small chips and scratches on the marble base.
