Dogon Warrior Sculpture in Gilded Bronze, Modernist Tribal Art, Mid-20th Century

Originating from Dogon craftsmanship (tribes of Mali), this work represents a warrior or warrior spirit inspired by the Dogon cosmogony, unique and specific to their culture and mythology.

Its distinctive form, standing and holding weapons, followed by a horned mask, makes it an effigy somewhere between folk art and sacred ethnic art. Its posture suggests it is more of a fetish, or at least a decorative piece in that sense, rather than a ritual statue.

In very good overall condition, this gilded bronze sculpture is unique. The Dogon people have a tradition of casting bronzes using only the lost-wax method, in unique terracotta and clay molds that are destroyed during the demolding process, attesting to the quality of the craftsmanship and the uniqueness of the works.

Perfect for a collector of West African tribal art or an enthusiast of Dogon craftsmanship.

Fast and careful shipping to France, Europe, and worldwide.
