    Henry IV as a Child
A beautiful bronze sculpture with a medal-like patina depicting the young Henry of Navarre, bareheaded, leaning against a tree trunk, his left hand clenched around his sword, based on the work of François-Joseph Bosio (Monaco 1768–Paris 1845): a similar model is housed at the Pau City Museum.
Marked by the foundry Marnyhac, 1 rue de la Paix.
    19th century.
    Very good condition.

It was during the reign of Louis XVIII that Bosio created this statue of Henry IV as a child, the plaster model of which was presented at the 1822 Salon. This childlike portrait of his illustrious founder is a subtle tribute to the Bourbon dynasty, restored after the Revolution and the Empire. This effigy enjoyed considerable success. It is the most widely copied sculptural work of the Restoration.
Founded in 1865 by Jacques Elie Edmond Armand de Marnyhac, the Marnyhac firm was a leading Parisian art, bronze, and furniture house during the Second Empire and the Third Republic. The firm ceased operations in 1894.
