La Charmeuse Art Nouveau allegorical bronze sculpture by Auguste Moreau late 19th century

Created by sculptor & bronze artist Auguste Moreau (1834-1917), this renowned artist belonged to a family dynasty of art bronze sculptors, renowned for their creations imbued with the poetry and realism of the neoclassical and Art Nouveau styles emerging at the end of the 19th century.

Trained in his family's studio, he also studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He left his mark on art history through exhibitions of his work at the Salon from 1861 onwards. His works are marked by a Romantic desire to introduce nature into French sculpture, featuring the figures of children and young girls as allegories.

La charmeuse is much more than a bronze sculpture; it symbolizes a change in art, towards ever more gaiety and poetry. Created using an ancient Italian casting process, this sculpture would be ideal in a collection of 19th-century French Bronze.
