Auguste Lechesne (1815-1888)

Auguste Lechesne , was a French sculptor , born on September 14 , 1815 in Caen , whose work left its mark on the artistic milieu of the 19th century .

"It was while blowing in the forge of his older brothers, who ran a body shop in Caen, rue de la Comédie, that young Auguste felt the desire to create and produce awaken in him, which became the most imperious of his needs."

Trained at the National School Of Fine-Arts in Paris , he was a pupil of Pierre-Charles Simart and Jean-Baptiste Joseph Debay . 
He quickly made a name for himself with his talent .
He distinguished himself by his ability to juggle styles , combining classicism with hints of romanticism .

He first came to prominence in 1840 , with a frieze on the façade of the Golden House in Paris.
Recognition of his talent won him numerous commissions to decorate Parisian private mansions .
After winning a medal at the 1848 Salon , he was awarded two first-class medals at the 1851 Universelle Exposition , followed by the cross of honor  at the 1855 Universelle Exposition .
In 1856 , he took part in the Price of Rome competition , winning the second Price of Rome for sculpture in 1856 .
In 1859 , the municipal administration of Caen entrusted him with the management of a sculpture school within the School of Fine-Arts .
He was a member of the Society of Fine-Arts in Caen .
He was appointed Knight of the Legion of Honour , on November 14 , 1855 . 

He died in Germany in 1888 , leaving behind an artistic legacy that deserves renewed recognition .
His contribution to French sculpture is undeniable , and his works continue to be appreciated for their technical finesse and profound expressiveness .
