Artist's bio from Galerie Got Paris

He has been sculpting since childhood. At an early age, he developed a passion for woodcarving. A fortunate and decisive encounter with an art cabinetmaker led him to attend the Ecole Boulle as an auditor, where he studied drawing and modeling. His craft quickly asserted itself, and his creative output diversified. Medieval statuary was his first field of predilection, then he worked on restoring churches and castles, ornamenting furniture, carving polychrome totem poles and figureheads for modern sailing ships, and collaborating with leading interior designers. With the same passion, he began sculpting marble, before devoting himself to creating bronze sculptures in which he has retained the strength and harmony of his early direct-cut work. Impressed by Mytoraï's marble sculptures and a great admirer of the works of Zadkine, Moore, Lynn Chadwick and Chillida, he enthusiastically explores new techniques, refusing to be confined to a single mode of expression. While his themes of inspiration change, the constant search for elegance and serenity in his work remains. Over the years, Jacques Le BESCOND has become a renowned sculptor, always delivering works of pure lines. A contemporary artist, Jacques Le BESCOND's work is rooted in the great tradition of classical sculpture. The profile of his monumental faces evokes both the elegance of Greek antiquities and the majestic strength of Easter Island heads. Among his inspirational themes, two stand out: one is the couple; the other is a tribute to the human imagination through a series of "sculpture books". This imagination, whether creative or contemplative, is a treasure essential to human balance and happiness.
