    An incredible plaster sculpture of the Nymph Amalthée and Zeus's goat. Amalthée is the goat that nurses Zeus as a child, and which Rhea has entrusted to protect him from the jealousy of Chronos. Later, the Goat metamorphoses into a Nymph. We have here an extremely rare example made in the 19th century by an unidentified artist.

    In the 19th century, few sculptors worked directly on stone or marble... Instead, they were "modelers". They generally used plaster to give shape to a creation straight out of their imagination, then entrusted the carving to specialists.
