An exceptional and rare polychrome stoneware sculpture, dating from between Art Nouveau and Art Deco around 1920, depicting Pierrot and Harlequin.
This polychrome stoneware piece by Muller bears the signature of Robert Bur in relief and likely a Muller stamp. The sculpture is titled "Les Confidences" (The Confidences) on the base.
This large sculpture features polychromy in subtle shades of blue, white, and pink glaze.
The colors are soft and slightly pastel.
Please note that this is stoneware and therefore quite heavy.
The scene is charming, showing the two friends chatting and smiling.
Harlequin, wearing a mask and bicorn hat, sports his famous diamond-patterned costume and holds a bouquet of flowers.
Pierrot is gentle and true to form, carrying a guitar on his back.
The sculpture is in excellent overall condition; the tip of Harlequin's sword was reattached some time ago. The two friends are deep in conversation and seem very close.
Indeed, the title, "The Confidences," is quite evocative.
