Exceptional pair of orientalist terracotta sculptures by Freidrich Goldscheider representing Abla and Antar from the Austrian school, 19th century. Dimensions height 101 cm for Antar and 99cm for Abla. Some traces of old restorations on Antar. wooden rifle and regulates.
Antar is the son of the Emir of the Bani Abs tribe and a black slave. He lived in the sixth century, during the pre-Islamic period. Antar falls in love with his cousin Abla. But because of her origins and the color of her skin, Abla's father refuses their union. Bastard, slave and black, but endowed with prodigious strength, unfailing courage, a sense of freedom and limitless generosity, driven by a chivalrous love for his cousin, Antar manages to strength of prowess, to be recognized by his father and to marry the one he loves. But Amara, one of Abla's suitors, kills him and puts an end to the hero's dreams of happiness.
