Set from Ming dynasty China (1368 - 1644).

This set of 5 pieces in predominantly green glazed terra cotta expresses the complex beliefs and practices that shaped Ming society.
This type of statuette was intended to fulfill a ceremonial function in funerary contexts.
They were placed inside tombs to ensure status and comfort in the afterlife.

Detail by module :

- A green-glazed terracotta statuette (H 25.5 cm) representing a funeral attendant. He stands on a plinth and wears a long, flowing robe tied at the waist with a belt. The outfit includes a high, conical hat typical of the Ming period. Significant traces of polychromy remain on the face, revealing the expression that was sought in the creation of this magnificent piece.

- A pair of miniature armchairs or thrones (H 22.5 cm) in finely-worked ceramic, decorated with a green glaze in ever-fresh hues.

- A pair of miniature cupboards (H 20 cm) in terracotta with a green glaze finish (note the reattachment of a foot - see photo).
The front imitates a panel door.

The set, from a private collection, forms an extremely delightful and decorative group, with ever-bright colors and exceptional condition for its age (see photo only, following reattachment of a cabinet leg).
