A very finely carved Dutch oak mangling board, 17th/18th century.
The Mangling board is in wonderful original used condition with a beautiful old original patina, the carving looks like velvet due to its age.
The cutting board is carved with two names: the male name is Jacob Buis and the female name is Neeltje Steur.
Both names are typical old Dutch names, and it is possible that this cutting board was carved for a wedding in the fishing village of Volendam.
This cutting board is extremely finely carved for a chip carving.
FYI: These types of cutting boards were made by men who gave them to the women they loved and in most cases they were given as a marriage gift. In the Netherlands this was a tradition.
76.5 cm high 11.5 cm wide.
