* Saint Laurent :
Born in Aragon, near Huesca, Lorenzo was a deacon of the Roman Church, whose property he administered. A victim of Valerian's persecution, he was arrested at the same time as Pope Sixtus II, and beheaded on August 6. Lorenzo was tortured on a grill to make him reveal where he had hidden the Church's treasure. He died on August 10, 258. To house his tomb, Emperor Constantine built the Basilica of Saint Lawrence Outside the Walls in Rome. Saint Lawrence is patron of the poor, to whom he distributed the treasures of the Church, and of bakers, because of the instrument of his martyrdom. He is also patron of deacons, firemen, cooks, roasters, charcoal burners, roasters, librarians, archivists and glassmakers.
