Pair of finely carved beechwood armchairs with scrolled backs, tapered front legs and saber-shaped back legs. They are upholstered in new gourgouran silk with lemon yellow lines (Lelièvre). Our chairs are of Parisian manufacture, similar to those made by Jacob or Demay in the Directoire period, late 18th century to mid-1790s.
It is interesting to note that these chairs are the transitional style between Louis XVI and Empire: the front of the chair is still very Louis XVI, while the back, with its scrolled back and saber legs, announces the Empire style.
Excellent condition, with old restorations. Horsehair upholstery on original 18th-century straps; the seats are upholstered in new silk with black braiding. Very luminous set, a good alliance between modern and antique.
Very elegant, the model is classic, but here declined with excellent production quality and perfect proportions. Alas, they are unstamped and cannot be attributed with certainty to the Master who produced them.
NB: we are also selling a set of 4 chairs of a similar model, ready to form a living-room set.
