This Syrian armchair has a sculptural presence that immediately catches the eye. Its solid walnut structure, dense and finely crafted, serves as a showcase for an abundant décor where every centimeter seems animated by the craftsman's hand. The openwork backrest, with its central medallion, focuses the light on its mother-of-pearl inlays, whose iridescent reflections change with the angle of view. Stylized floral motifs and oriental geometries are carved with almost jewel-like precision.
The curved legs, which intersect in an X shape to form a curved seat, give the armchair an almost calligraphic allure. Their movement evokes a fluid gesture frozen in wood, while the surfaces are punctuated by light fillets and arabesques carved in bas-relief. The whole creates a subtle dialogue between the density of the decoration and the lightness of the silhouette.
This piece reflects the heritage of the Syrian workshops in Damascus and Aleppo, where marquetry and inlay are considered major arts. The armchair is more than just a seat: it's a ceremonial object, designed to magnify an interior and bear witness to know-how handed down from generation to generation. It embodies an aesthetic where ornament becomes language, symbol and memory.
