Superb Transitional Louis XV- Louis XVI period caned chair bearing the label of the carpenter Sébastien Carpentier. Original painted walnut. Sebastien Carpentier received his master's degree in 1770 in Lyon, a pupil of Pierre Nogaret. Its original label is glued to the inside of the back rail: "Le sieur Carpantier, Maître menuisier, demeurant dans la rue de l'Arbre-sec, au premier étage, à Lyon, fait et vend toutes sortes de Meubles en Fauteuils, Chaises, Canapés, Ottomanes, Duchesses, & autres, tant en cannes, que prêts à être garnis ; toutes sortes de Lits avec leurs Impériales, & généralement tout ce qu'il faut pour meubler les Appartements dans le dernier goût. Those who wish some of his articles, may come and see models, & he will accommodate them at very good prices." Stable and in good condition (minor damage to cane). 18th century Lyonnais work.
