It stands on 8 tapered, fluted Louis XVI legs.
The wood is Walnut.
The upholstery and fabric (more recent) have been cleaned, but not changed.
Fairly good condition of the Lyonnaise silk fabric.

Duchesse: full-cheeked chaise longue with rounded, curved back and elongated seat. The "duchesse en bateau" (or "gondola") is a one-part chaise longue with a double headboard (the broken duchesse is in two parts). (Cf Dictionnaire des Antiquités et de la Brocante).
