Carved, white lacquered wood sofa with high, straight back, richly decorated with applied gilded motifs. The ornamentation is typical of the Empire period, with palmettes, foliage and neoclassical decorative elements.
The backrest and seat are upholstered in deep blue damask cotton in perfect condition.
This sofa is a perfect example of imperial aesthetics, combining architectural rigor and decorative richness. The ornamentation - palmettes, stylized foliage, interlacing friezes - evokes the creations of famous cabinetmakers such as François-Honoré-Georges Jacob-Desmalter and Pierre Benoît Marcion, official suppliers to imperial palaces.
A pair of chairs stamped P.Marcion, with white and gold rechampies and similar ornamentation, came from the Tuileries Palace.
    Empire period 1804-1815
    Good condition. Some wear.
