An interesting French Empire period production, with this elegant, wide mahogany and mahogany veneered sofa or Paumier.
Our sofa or Paumier has been reupholstered in a beautiful yellow fabric in the taste of the period.

In fine condition. New upholstery.
The Paumier is a three-backed sofa mentioned in the periodical "Magasin des modes nouvelles françaises et anglaises".
April 30, 1787, is reproduced and captioned: sofa à trois dossiers, called Sofa en Paumier. This piece of furniture is put in winter in a bedroom near the fire to read or rest. The seat is in the latest taste.
In his memoirs, Jacob-Desmalter calls it a Head-to-Head or Sleeper.
