Here's Thonet's chair no. 90, created in 1899, a limited production run of eleven years, and listed in the 1899 general catalog. We think it's well known, but very little was made of it. It's well known because it's the one pictured in the preface to the 1899 catalog, and in 1904, certainly in the spirit of a prototype, since its construction is unusual, even unique. It appears on page 20 of the 1904 catalog, next to the Lattenstuhl, another original. It's the only model that was under patent from 1899 to 1904: the slats are curved in their width, not in their thickness - a real technical feat. Assembly is by brass rivets forming a light in the center. The screws securing the backrest to the uprights are Lattenstuhl's own, and require a special wrench with two lugs. The techniques used can be appreciated in the accompanying photos. Stamp and label (2) under the seat. Original cherry and schellack stain.

In 1899, the N°90 sold for the same price as the N°13, and twice as much as the N°14.
From 1898 to 1911, 95 units were produced at the Bistritz factory, with the remainder in Randomsk. The caned model was produced in 2050 units and a wooden seat model in 150 units.
