Set of two bistro chairs by Jacob and Joseph Kohn, No. 48, circa 1890. Several versions of this model exist, having evolved over time.
This particular set features a connecting ring on the legs and a round wooden seat, finished in a "dark oak" shellac, a classic bistro color from the 1890s/1900s. We have been able to preserve the patina of age and the traces of the various restoration phases.
In very good condition, stable and sturdy, ready for use.
Underneath both chairs is the J & J Kohn stamp.
Around 1884, Kohn patented a method of attaching the front legs with metal screws, a strong and easy-to-assemble system used in branches across various European countries. (See attached sketch.)
This chair is three-quarter length, neither a small bistro chair nor a large dining room chair, but it is quite high in seat height. The optional reinforcements have contributed to their excellent current condition!
Seat height: 47 cm Total height: 88 cm Seat diameter: 39 cm
