This pair of bowls or compote bowls are made of solid silver. They have a flat bottom, radiating ribs and provided with a small molded rim, they were designed for serving fruit cooked in compote. These objects, characteristic of this period, correspond to a model created by Pierre Desmazures produced in 1707 or 1708 and kept at the Museum of Decorative Arts. The pair we are offering bears the master's mark of Guillaume Levé where the initials G.L. appear on a heart of lilies and under a crowned sun, the latter was received master in 1717, the discharge for the city of Orléans is a horn of abundance for the years 1729 to 1731, and the Jurande d'Orléans hallmark is a crowned K for the years 1728 to 1730. It is interesting to note that appears in the work of the Orléans Museum entitled: "les Orfèvres d 'Orléans' on page 195 a pair of identical bowls by master Guillaume Levé from the years 1726-1728. A few tiny little shocks or scratches should be noted.
