Very large Aubusson rug from the Napoleon III period – late 19th century. Light in color, in beige tones, our rug features a beautiful Louis XVI style design with laurel wreaths, scrolls, bouquets, and naturalistic floral wreaths.
The Aubusson Manufactory has been renowned for the excellence of its production since the 17th century, particularly for its French rugs and tapestries. Initially Royal, then Imperial, and finally National, it supplied official palaces and prominent aristocratic families. An elegant piece, it is essential for a grand French-style interior. The effect created by 18th-century chairs and furniture on a French rug is quite different from that of an Oriental rug.
In very good overall condition. The light colors (beige tones) bring a great deal of light to the room in which this rug will be placed, and the rug is originally light in color. It brightens and lightens a room, unlike larger, red rugs which can feel heavier. It has no tears or stains.
Very rare in this pristine condition.
