This Shirvan kilim, from Persia, is distinguished by its exceptional rarity of weaving. Made from wool on wool using traditional methods, it offers a finesse, regularity, and precision that command admiration.
The piece is airily light, as thin as a sheet of cigarette paper, and surprisingly supple, almost choreographic.
The palette of vegetable dyes displays a soft and harmonious polychromy, centered around subtly nuanced primary colors. Each shade seems to have been chosen with instinctive delicacy, like a sensory evocation of childhood.
The simple and elegant composition is based on a succession of horizontal lines punctuated by repeated geometric motifs—a visual rhythm that evokes a silent musical score, to be read with the eyes and fully felt. Circa 1900–1920
