"Jean Picart Le Doux, Homage to Pablo Neruda" - Tapestry Serigraph

Signed: Jean Picart Le Doux, lower right.

French poet, one of the leading figures of the Surrealist movement.

Jean Picart Le Doux, France 1902–1982:

He began his career in bookbinding and publishing, then devoted himself to advertising and graphic arts, publishing his first works in 1935. His first tapestry designs date from 1943, after winning first prize for theater posters at the Salon de l'Imagerie. Before the war, he worked with Jean Lurçat on a cover design for Harper's Bazaar magazine, who encouraged him to study tapestry. Between 1939 and 1945, he created his first designs without any prior knowledge of tapestry techniques. With Jean Lurçat and Marc Saint-Saëns, he founded the Association of Tapestry Designers in 1947. Jean Lurçat was its president, and the last two were vice-presidents. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts (National Society of Fine Arts) in the Decorative Arts section from 1975 to 1980.
Signed on the front, lower right.
