A unique piece woven by the artist, this is an original and one-of-a-kind tapestry from the artist's estate, likely woven at the Gobelins Manufactory around 1970, where he worked as a master weaver and tapestry designer. Edmond Melot, a painter, was also a master weaver and tapestry designer at the Gobelins Manufactory in Paris. His work includes tapestries by Chagall, Jean Arp, and Fernand Léger. This large low-warp wool tapestry depicts pastoral scenes in the style of the Middle Ages. Measuring 116 x 226 cm, Edmond Melot almost certainly designed the cartoon for this tapestry himself. He excels in his subject; the colors are vibrant and the composition is balanced.
