Finely chased bronze clock with double brown patina and mercury gilding, depicting a woman seated on an Empire-style chair and leaning on a tripod pedestal table of the same period.
She is handing her little dog a letter she seems to have just written to her suitor, whom we find on the terrace, receiving the letter from the same dog.
The dog, a symbol of fidelity, is the link between the two characters, and its role as messenger is reinforced by the presence on the clock's terrace of two winged petases, a round felt or straw hat with a wide, supple, flat brim, worn mainly by Greek travellers.
Wire movement with hour and half-hour striking.
The movement is in perfect working order and has been overhauled by a watchmaker. When the movement was overhauled, we found the date September 1808 on the movement and striking springs.
Very good overall condition, gilding and patina in good condition; note a slight crack (visible) on the dial.
