A mantelpiece set consisting of a clock with a marble base, a bronze figure, and two vases made of bronze, marble, and alabaster.
The figure depicts a patinated bronze Eros with his bow and arrow, and—characteristic of the Louis XVI style—a bronze quiver adorned with flowers and ribbons in an oval shape on the right side, a torch on the ground, and rows of bronze beads around the edge of the marble base. The mechanism, in perfect working order, is signed by Gérome, successor to the Thibaut firm, a renowned 18th-century clockmaker. It is topped by a pair of bronze doves, a symbol of love. The vases are made of alabaster, set on marble bases, with bronze foliage motifs.
This ensemble is typical of the taste of the mid-19th century, a period spanning from the Restoration to the reign of Napoleon III.
Shipped in secure packaging with insurance; shipping costs are extra. The dimensions refer to the clock.
