Lefévre successeur de De Belle clock "
Superb gilt bronze clock signed Lefévre successeur de De Belle in Paris, dating from the very early 19th century (probably circa 1810).
"Lefevre à Paris": this signature refers to the watchmaker Pierre-Honoré Lefèvre (or Lefebvre). Lefèvre maintained close business and friendly relations with fellow watchmaker Jean-François Debelle. In 1803, after Debelle's death, his widow, Catherine-Sophie Martin, was forced to return a large number of the clocks in the store - exactly twenty-nine - to Lefèvre, who lived at the same address. Lefèvre, who is totally absent from specialized works, seems to have produced a large number of high-quality clocks. He was professionally and morally linked to Debelle, with whom he collaborated and to whom he entrusted the sale of numerous clocks he had made or entirely financed; the two men then shared the profits. Pierre-Honoré Lefèvre bought out the business of his colleague and friend Jean-François Debelle, and continued the workshop with some success.
Our clock is in perfect working order and in its original gilding.
