Modify
Magnificent and large clock, very decorative, very uncommon at the time. It is composed of gilded bronze with mercury and patinated bronze.
It reveals a sublime war scene with the figure of two knights, one of whom is wounded, and Pierre Terrail, lord of Bayard, the knight without fear or reproach, valiantly supporting and defending his comrade-in-arms against the enemies.
Period : Restoration - Circa : 1820.
Style : Troubadour, Middle Ages - Provenance : France.
Dimensions : Height : 53cm x Width : 37cm x Depth : 14cm.
Entirely revised by a professional clockmaker - Original movement without modification, silk thread suspensions, hour and half-hour ringing on old bell.
Its white enamel dial is highlighted by a finely chiseled gilt bronze crown where its Roman numerals and small finely worked hands become light.
Its base rests on four feet decorated with acanthus scrolls, enhanced by a garland of gadroons that highlights a magnificent trophy of arms composed of the lance and the scarf of the knight.
The armor worn by the knight was embarrassing, impractical and above all did not allow him to carry useful objects or accessories.
The scarf, relegated to the rank of a simple cloth, had in the Middle Ages a purely functional role.
The large piece of cloth served as a shroud, an accessory to which the knight could resort for reasons, simple but fundamental or vital needs during the battle as for example to dress his wounds or to wipe the blood of a wound, quite simply to blow his nose.
Perfect authenticity and a remarkable state of preservation!
