Important Rococo style clock in chased and gilt bronze. This Louis XV style clock has a very fine decoration of moving foliage, flowers and shells. The whole is surmounted by a bouquet of flowers. The four cambered feet are decorated with portraits of women in cartouches. The edges are decorated with trellises. The dial is enamelled in white with Roman numerals for the hours separated by golden fleur-de-lis. In the centre is a decoration of acanthus leaves.
Raingo et frères is a clockmaker's house founded in 1823 that made bronze furniture, mantelpiece and wall clocks from 1850 onwards. They created pieces for Napoleon III and the Empress Eugenie from 1860. They teamed up with great names such as Auguste Moreau and François Linke to decorate their clocks. They won numerous awards including a gold medal at the Universal Exhibition in 1889.
