This very large wrought iron compass belonged to a journeyman carpenter or stonemason. Used for transferring measurements, drawing curves, or marking reference points, these tools, which accompanied artisans, were carefully crafted. The one we are offering has forged, four-sided points with chamfered corners. It features a curve and counter-curve motif midway along its length, and the hinge is decorated with an applied motif, unfortunately missing part of its design, likely a fleur-de-lis.

    Length 94 cm.
