Beautiful copper basin, with a wide hemmed edge, deep walls, large navel at the bottom to carry on the head, it is a very classic basin of washerwomen or linenwomen from our southern regions, in superb condition.
What is extraordinary about this object is that we can still see the work of the Dinandier, his extremely precise and meticulous hammer assembly, with this embroidery on the walls and the convex background, these hammering spacings, between the rows of pearls and rows of waves, both decorative and giving strength to the copper. The background is decorated with a bird holding a branch, like Noah's Ark in the Bible....
Condition: almost new, and this is why we can see the work of the hammer, most of the time disappeared in the denting, denting, polishing, and patching of all kinds that an everyday object had to withstand .
Good condition, some wear on the bottom,
One of my nice colleagues once had one, dated 1840, Nîmes. This one comes from the Cévennes.
42cm x 20cm, weight: 3.4kg. Take a good look at our photos.
