  This work is typical of England. Before agricultural mechanization, wheat stubble, among other things, was used in many ways.
The generic name Corn Dolly indicates that toys were made with this particular basketry technique. But all sorts of objects of various uses were made. Like our "Corn Dolly" trompe l'oeil parasol, more complex objects were created requiring the skills of an excellent craftsman.
We find the drawing of a very close work, the umbrella of Cambridgeshire (Cambridgeshire umbrella) Moreover, the design of the umbrella makes it a success in complexity because the volute is very wide and long, therefore very delicate to manufacture.
